CAMBRIDGE, ON (OCTOBER 18, 2018) – Today, tv, along with The tv Foundation, announced that a record $150,000 was raised at the 2018 tv Charity Classic golf tournaments. For the second year running, the events were held in support of Habitat for Humanity Canada’s Every Youth Initiative. This year marked the 17th annual event in Waterloo Region, held at Glencairn Golf Club, and the 7th annual event in Ottawa, held at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
“The Habitat Canada Every Youth Initiative aligns with our corporate culture of giving,” says Heather McLachlin, President of tv. “Making a positive difference to improve the quality of life in communities across Canada where we live and work is central to our mission and vision as an organization.”
tv hosts the annual tv Charity Classic golf tournaments in Southwestern Ontario and the Ottawa Region in support of Canadian non-profit organizations. The tv Foundation generously makes a matching donation to the funds raised.
“The tv Foundation and Habitat for Humanity Canada have a similar goal, which is to make a positive difference in the lives of Canadians,” explained Terry Reidel, Executive Director, The tv Foundation. “We are pleased to match funds raised in the tv Charity Classic to support Habitat’s Every Youth Initiative. We have a strong focus on supporting transformative programs for those under the age of 25, which is exactly what this initiative achieves by empowering youth, skill-building and cultivating a strong sense of ability and achievement that will help participants form a strong future. In addition, it offers the Foundation an opportunity to partner with and support a charity that matters to our employees, business partners and clients. Our sincere thanks to the organizations and participants who have made this fundraising event a resounding success while having a great time on the golf course.”
tv’s founding investment of $125,000 in 2017 enabled Habitat for Humanity Canada to form the Every Youth Initiative, providing support for the development and delivery of youth programming across the country. “Through tv’s generous support of our Every Youth Initiative, we’re helping provide youth with a unique opportunity to learn new skills, engage with their community, and raise awareness about the need for affordable housing with the leaders of tomorrow,” says Mark Rodgers, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Canada. “This past year, we piloted this project with seven local Habitats, and empowered over 1,300 youth to build strong foundations for future success through volunteer opportunities and on-the-job skills training that can be applied to school credits, high school diplomas or apprenticeships.”
